A Bold Move Pays Off for Abold at South Boston
By Lou Lauer, USARfans.comThere were two winners at the Miller Lite 250 in South Boston, Virginia. One has come out on top several times in 275 Pro Cup races prior to this past weekend and the other winner gambled and stayed on the track when everyone else pitted. Danny Abold's choice to stay out during a lap 17 caution flag period allowed him to lead his first laps in his Pro Cup career and then he held off the weather and a fast charging Benny Gordon to collect his first Pro Cup victory.
On lap 161, it was Abold leading Gordon, Mikey Kile, Mike Hampton, and Jay Fogleman onto pit road one last time, but this time it wasn't to make a pit stop - it was to take the #6N U-Pull U-Save Chevrolet into a makeshift victory lane in the infield tech garage.
Enter the second winner on Saturday night - Mother Nature. For only the 6th time since the Pro Cup Series began 12 seasons ago, a race was shortened by rain.
