Holman One Of Many Looking Forward To Sept. 11 American Freedom Spectacular At BMS

General NewsBristol Motor Speedway Press Release

Fresh off the IRWIN Tools Night Race, Bristol Motor Speedway hosts the USARacing Pro Cup Series American Freedom Spectacular Saturday, Sept. 11, an event which will showcase plenty of talent from a number of drivers eager to prove themselves on a bigger stage.

While USARacing Pro Cup drivers run the gamut from experienced short track veterans to young and exuberant rookies, all of them hope to be standing in victory lane once the checkered flag falls at the end of their 200-lap battle. For them, a win at Bristol puts them one step closer to finding their way through the ranks of stock car racing.

One driver who has experienced the excitement of winning at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile is Abingdon, Va. - based competitor Caleb Holman. Holman, who is tied for the Series point lead, scored a victory during the Pro Cup Series’ last appearance at BMS in 2008 and hopes to back that up next weekend with a similar result.

Chase Elliott tests at Bristol Motor Speedway with father

General NewsBRISTOL, Tenn. -- Bill Elliott was back in his element.

While rival cars powered around Bristol Motor Speedway Monday morning, Elliott devoted his attention to the No. 9 Ford.

The former Sprint Cup champion examined the engine, chatted with crew members, checked his stop watch and deftly avoided reporters. Elliott was clearly on a quest for speed with his 15-year-old son Chase.

Fourteen drivers from the USAR Pro Cup Series tested at BMS in preparation for a 200-lap race on Sept. 11.

Bill Elliott won the 1988 Valleydale Meats 500 at Bristol. The younger Elliott has heard the stories and seen the images of NASCAR’s most popular short track. He’s eager for the real thing.

"I’ve come to a bunch of races here with dad and I watched the [USAR] race here two years ago," Elliott said. "I’ve always loved Bristol. I’m just glad to finally be able to run on this track."

The Sept. 11 racing program at BMS has been dubbed the American Freedom Spectacular. Read More

Neither rain nor fog can hold back Rogers

By ROB GRAY • robgray@dmreg.com • July 31, 2010

Rain delayed the start.

Fog determined the finish.

Suffice it to say Friday's Blue Ox 150 USAR Pro Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway scored a '10' on the weird, wild and surreal scale - except when it came to the winner.

"Man, what a day this was trying to get through," said Clay Rogers, who won his fifth straight race and padded his mammoth series points lead. "I don't think I've ever been hit by the same storm three times sitting in one spot."

USAR officials called the race near midnight with 29 laps remaining.

Rogers, the defending points champ who also won titles in 2004 and 2006, led second-place finisher A.J. Frank by 4.2 seconds when the shroud of fog billowed into an eye-straining bank.

"Happy for the finish," Frank said, shaking his head, "but tired of losing to that guy."

J.P. Morgan seeks a USAR repeat

General NewsBy ROB GRAY • robgray@dmreg.com • July 29, 2010

Newton, Ia. - J.P. Morgan's stock sank when his alternator broke.

So despite driving the fastest race car, the North Carolinian started dead last in the 2009 USAR Pro Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway.

No matter.

Morgan came back to win it - but with one coveted accent to his first series triumph notably missing.

"We wanted the pole, too," said Morgan, who returns with more than 20 other drivers for Friday's 8 p.m. Blue Ox 150 at Iowa Speedway. "When you're running that good you think, 'Man, I've got this thing covered. I want to get the pole and win it.' But it wasn't our day for that part of it, but we'll take the win over the pole any day."

Morgan ran fourth-quickest in Thursday afternoon's USAR practice.
