Holman Claims Second Straight Victory

By Lindsey Holman

HICKORY, N.C. (May 1, 2010) – Saturday night at Hickory Motor Speedway Caleb Holman found himself in victory lane once again, leading the last 14 laps of the WIX Filters 250. The race weekend started on Friday for Henderson Motorsports, testing all day and struggling to find the speed they needed.

“We came up yesterday [Friday] and were awful when we started testing and just kept working and working,” said Holman. “We absolutely worked ourselves to the bone to try to get this car to drive. Of course, Clay was just in another time zone. I don't think we could have worked long enough to get to him.”

After a decent morning of practice Holman qualified seventh, trying control a tight handling Food Country Chevrolet.

When the green flag fell for the running of the WIX Filters 250 Holman found a nice ridding spot, settling in the eighth position for a while. After several cautions and pitting for fuel he gained five spots on pit road, coming out in third.

Caleb Holman Snares Second Straight Victory

USARacing PressBy Deb Williams, USARacing Media

HICKORY, N.C. (May 1, 2010) – Clay Rogers dominated Saturday night's WIX Filters 250, leading three times for 222 laps, but an engine problem with 14 laps remaining sent the 29-year-old North Carolinian to the garage and Virginia's Caleb Holman to victory lane for his second straight USARacing Pro Cup Series race.

Holman, from Abingdon, Va., has now won two of the season's first three USAR Pro Cup races. He snapped a 17-race winless streak two weeks ago at New Smyrna [Fla.] Speedway, while Rogers won the season opener at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga.

“It feels good.,” said Holman, who led only once for the final 14 laps. “When your luck finally turns around, and I tell you, it isn't luck. I've got to give all the credit to the Lord Jesus Christ. We had a great team and everything was put together great, but a few weeks ago I got to the end of my rope at Gresham and I said, 'Man, what do I have to do?' I read a verse in the Bible (that said) if you put your priorities straight, the Lord will add all these other things unto you. I just decided I was going to do that and, man, we haven't lost a race since.”

The 26-year-old Holman described his team as “awesome” following his third career victory.

Holman Goes Back-to-Back and Wins Hickory

Race ResultsTaking advantage of a blown motor by Clay Rogers in the late stages of the race, Caleb Holman piloted the #75 Galaxy Food Ford to victory lane for the second Pro Cup race in a row.

Rogers was the picture of domination tonight, right up until lap 236 when he parked his car after the motor began to seize up. He had been spewing water for many laps prior to that and was still able to control a comfortable lead - but that is why the Pro Cup Series runs races that are 250 laps long.

Holman ran up front most of the night and was in the perfect position to capitalize. Following Holman across the line in the remaining top 5 spots were Logan Ruffin, AJ Frank, Billy Bigley Jr, and JP Morgan.

We'll try to have a more in depth report in the next couple of days along with a collection of photos, but for now we're a little worn out from the day and are heading to our own pits!

Happy Raceday from Hickory!

Good morning. It's a pretty nice day here at the "birthplace of the stars". The infield is packed with 5 race series haulers and practice for some of the non-USAR series is underway. The 21 Pro Cup teams which are on site will take to the track for teir first practice session at 12:30 PM. The only car on the entry list who is not here is the #35 of Trevor Farbo.

We'll have an update or two during the day but will not be providing live updates during the race. If we find out that anyone is doing live updates, we will be sure to let you know.

1:40 PM Update - The first of two practice session is over and to nobody's surprise, the #16 of Clay Rogers is at the top of the timing sheet. There was one minor spin by Dylan Bigley and one caution for debris during the 45 minute session. The #99 of Brandon Sweet was unable to get any laps of practice as a mechanical issue forced his team to unload the backup and get it ready to race. He should be able to hit the track in the second session, set to run from 2:45 to 3:25 this afternoon.

The results from practice were:
Clay Rogers
Caleb Holman
A.J. Frank
Jeff Agnew
Billy Bigley Jr.
Lucas Ransone
Stephen Nasse
Matt Lofton
J.P. Morgan
John Gibson
Logan Ruffin
Benny Gordon
Danny Abold
David Wilson
Ryan Heavner
Bryan Silas
Larry Barrett
Dylan Bigley
Tyler Young
Andrew Gordon (no time)
Brandon Sweet (no time)

4 PM Update - Final practice has ended and point leader Clay Rogers was fastest, again. Jeff Agnew was second quickest. Rounding out the top five, respectively, were: Logan Ruffin; J.P. Morgan and Billy Bigley Jr. There were no incidents in final practice. Qualifying is set for 5:15 with the green flag at 8 pm. The weather is still holding out just fine with clouds coming and going, same for the sun - but we're still dry and ready to race!

Check with the newly announced USARacing Pro Cup Series fan page on Facebook for raceday updates. I'm not sure if they will be doing live updates during the race, but we at http://USARfans.com will not be. Grabbing a seat in the stands to watch great racing is too enticing!

Random Hickory Thoughts

Lou'se EndsStaying a little closer to home for most teams, the Pro Cup Series rolls into legendary Hickory Motor Speedway this coming weekend. I can't imagine that you can find a race fan who has not heard of Hickory. “The World's Most Famous Short-Track” stands alone with a long list of history and tradition. The 2010 race season marks the 59th season of competition at the .363 mile bullring. Hickory Motor Speedway is the oldest professional sporting venue in Catawba County and is the oldest continually operated motor speedway in the country. We love going there every year!

One thing to be excited about for this race will be the weather. A typical Pro Cup race takes place at Hickory in July or August and it can be a scorcher for teams and fans. With the schedule change this year, conditions should be ideal to enjoy some great action at the track. The WIX Filters 250 raceday program is jam packed this year too, with 4 other racing series running races in support of USARacing. The USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Allison Legacy Series, RTM Modifieds, and ISCAR Dash Series will all be on putting on a show for the fans, so get to the track early and enjoy a full day!
